Vintage can be found to be quite pricey.

Even at vintage stores in Singapore, vintage clothing cost at an average of $30 and above. Trust us, it’s a pain, we know.

Therefore, we present you 4 ways where you can get hold of wonderful vintage/close-to-vintage apparels.

- Pass-me-downs

If you’re the youngest in the family, GOD BLESS YOU. Usually, older sibling’s apparels are the best! Even if you don’t share the same style, there are 3-5 pieces in their closet that will compliment you 100%. If you share the same style with your sibling, you’ll be looking at paradise once you negotiate with your siblings.  It will you cost nothing more than $5-$10 or a few days of chores and slavery work. Why pass-me-downs? They are yesterday’s trend, who would want them now? EXACTLY. With the right pair of bottoms, shoes and accessories, you’ll stand out completely. Of course, you have to take in consideration that the material and design are NOT COMPLETELY YESTERDAY.

- Flea market

Flea market’s clothes are HIDIOUS! YOU ARE WRONG! Always stick your nose into one. That’s where you get the best bargains when you buy more than 3 pieces of clothes that may cost you $30-$40 in Bugis Street but less than $30 at flea markets. Flea market these days either sell old stocks that can be beautiful if you were to look at every inch of the rack or sell something complete eye catching that no one would wear. Never underestimate any apparel that may look appalling. If it catches your eye, try it in an instant! A shopping sign rarely comes, grab it when you can!

- Thrift Store

Salvation Army, wonderful place that sings vintage heaven and ghostly horror because you may never know the history of the beautiful piece you are wearing. Nah, we’re just kidding! BUT NOT about the part that sings vintage heaven. You will never find such elegance, classy and edgy designs and cuts in one place. Just a heads up, you have to look at all thrift store, certain thrift store sells their products almost the same price as the usual price. Shop wise and look wise. Know your stuff and materials when shopping at a thrift store.

- Too much is too good

You have no idea how much vintage you can get hold on when you do extra spring cleaning. Go lend a helping hand to your poor aging aunts/uncles/grandparents. You will be blessed for the New year AND so will your closet with only time and effort. They may want to give away good condition clothes to you. It may not be the best fit but you can work magic and give them a good home where they will be adored!
